And The Earth Responded

One season was enough to bring change: from promise to proof, life is stirring again.

We often talk to you about living soils, biodiversity, and regenerative farming… But this time, we have tangible proof to share. For the first time, we’ve been able to measure many of the impacts of our practices in the vineyard—and what we’ve discovered is more than encouraging!

We chose to focus on the Esclots plot. Planted in 2023 and never tilled, it embodies what we aim to create across all our vineyards: autonomous, resilient, fertile ecosystems. And the results are remarkable.

A wide variety of plants have taken root. Beyond what we sowed, many beneficial native species (like clover and Mediterranean alfalfa) have returned on their own—a clear sign that the ecosystem is coming back to life.

A simple spade test shows soil that is structured, crumbly, and well-aerated: perfect for deep vine roots and water infiltration.

We counted up to 14 earthworms per spadeful. Their presence is a clear marker of living, functional soil: they loosen it, recycle organic matter, and boost natural fertility. The cover crops alone were enough to feed the vines, and the soil is once again playing its full nourishing role.

As highlighted in our recent cover crop assessment, in just one season we stored nearly one ton of stable carbon per hectare. For perspective, the 4 per 1000 initiative from the COP21 recommends +0.2 tons per hectare per year to offset global CO₂ emissions. In other words, in one season our cover crops achieved the equivalent of 4 to 5 years worth of that target.

The next test—SBS (Soil Biological Health)—measures vitality through the activity and diversity of soil microorganisms. Our plot scored 77/100, far above the vineyard average of 52/100 (with the highest observed score at 86/100). This is extremely promising, especially as it revealed a rich fungal community—crucial for soil life and vine nutrition. Let’s not forget: soil is home to around 25% of the planet’s biodiversity. When it thrives, the whole ecosystem benefits.

And all of this, in just a few months. This is only the beginning of the journey—but it already shows that the moment we stop forcing the land, nature finds its way back. When the soil lives, the vine breathes, the grapes tell their story, and the wine becomes a living memory of its place.
